A: There are 5 modes on this item - full, less, even less, flashing, SOS signal. This flashlight is CLEAR at full, but of course uses the battery accordingly.
Q: How many hours for runtime?
A: I would say about 4 to 5 hours on high setting. It's best to buy a couple of extra batteries for it if you take it on long trips.
